First week at Shanghai (utilities at the place we live)
As China blocks Wordpress.com, I cannot blog using my wordpress blog. I shall blog here first and import the entries over when I go back home.
The first two days, I missed home rather badly cos everything is so different here and we are living in apartments with very little facilities.
Let me describe how our apartments are like first. At the girls side, we have the TV, the washing machine and the ironing stuff. The TV is ok, normal. The washing machine is so so funny for a lack of better word. The tap for the washing machine is connected to the kitchen basin's tap, so there is no valve for the pipe. Know what this means? We have to manually on and off the tap. As the connection is not very good, it leaks at the tap. When the washing machine needs to drain off water, the tap should be off, otherwise there will be an instant made water fountain. It made me so wet the first time we tried the washing machine. When the guys wanted to wash their clothes, it was as bad. It is like the war with the washing machine. It was so fun initially. Now we found a way to prevent the spraying of water already.
Next up is the water heater. According to the driver of the company, it is imported. A German brand. Yup. But it is a bit er. outdated. The heater is like a stove. First you must turn the knob to ignite side. Then press the knob and hold until the "stove" catches fire. Next turn the knob to keep the fire burning so that when you want hot water, the "stove" will turn to the larger fire to heat up the water. The fire uses gas.
Last one is the ironing stuff. The ironing board is very low. At least the iron is a steam iron. Now, we cannot use the ironing board, cos the board decolourised and stained one of the guys shirt yellow. Now we have to get the ironing board cover which the guys cannot find it at near the place we live.
